An author event for all ages! The PS10 PTA welcomes Newbery award-winning author Matt de la Peña and DREAMer and NY Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz, in conversation with New York Times nonfiction critic Jennifer Szalai, to share perspectives on immigration, social justice, and the power of stories—from picture books to superhero novels—to connect us all. ASL interpretation will be provided.
Matt de la Peña is the New York Times bestselling, Newbery Medal-winning author of seven young adult novels (including Mexican WhiteBoy, We Were Here, and Superman: Dawnbreaker) and five picture books (including Carmela Full of Wishes and Last Stop on Market Street).
Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz was elected to serve the residents of the New York State Assembly’s 39th District, which encompasses the neighborhoods of Corona, Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights, Queens. She was born in Colombia and came to the United States at the age of 9. She grew up as a DREAMer and is an experienced attorney and a leader for tenant protections, immigration reform, and workers’ rights.
